Upscale 11,000 Sq. Ft. Lodge and Cabins set Amidst Rolling Hills

Nine buffalo, three longhorn steers, and dozens of white-tailed deer wander across 550 acres of forested hills and meadows on Pine Lakes Lodge's property in eastern Ohio. And those are just the wild animals: there's also an onsite petting zoo with two camels, Carl and Jimmy, as well as llamas and miniature horses. It's a nice secluded patch of nature for animals to find solitude, but not all of them are roughing it here: Leo, the resident bulldog, has his own temperature-controlled house.

It's a nice place for humans to settle into, too. After bird watching or longbow hunting on the private reserve, you can relax at the lovely main lodge, a two-story bed and breakfast sprawled across 11,000 square feet and decorated with exposed wooden beams, a large stone fireplace, and a chandelier made of antlers.

Pine Lakes Lodge's property is made up of a handful of rustic cabins. You can choose to stay in the Bunk House, which sleeps 4 guests, or in the Grainery, which accommodates 10 guests. The Bunk House is done up in country-style decor, with a fireplace, exposed wooden beams, and oversize leather couches. Meanwhile, the luxurious Buffalo Hills and Black Angus rooms are located in the lodge building; both feature private patios that look out to the nearby hills and meadows.

After the sun sets over the lodge, you can start off a three-course dinner ($30/person) with broccoli-cheese soup or a house-made vegetable broth. There's a varied selection of entrees: try a new york strip steak, a portobello chicken breast, a stuffed pork chop, or a vegetarian Asian stir-fry. Then seal the meal with a dessert such as a mini cheesecake, a brownie fudge sundae, or a yogurt parfait.

Explore the Hills and Meadows by Horseback or Bicycle

A stable of American quarter horses resides on the grounds of Pine Lakes Lodge. Option 3 with this Getaway includes a one-hour horseback trail ride for two amid the property’s 550 acres of hilly meadows and pine trees.

There’s a number of other ways you can explore the hiking trails and lakeside scenery here. Pine Lakes Lodge also offers bike rentals ($25/hour) or two-seater John Deere Gator rentals ($100/hour).
