Our New Favorite Place A conveniently-located charming old school hotel with a professional staff that cares about your comfort and is quick to recommend good local eateries, coffee shops, etc. Best value for the money in Santa Monica. This will be our go-to spot whenever we visit that beach community.

Very noisey but great location The hotel is clean and is in a very convenient location and has all the bare essentials. The location is a massive advantage but the noise on Friday and Saturday nights from the surrounding bars and streets resulted in sleepless nights. It was impossible to get any rest. When I mentioned the noise, reception said that I could choose from street noise or generator noise on the other side of the building. The noise on the other nights we were there ( not Friday / Saturday ) was bearable but I won’t be going back. Don’t recommend

Ride staff, unexpected extra charge for “destination fee” The room was small, constructions everywhere. Just checked out at the hotel, this is the most ridiculous experience I have ever had. I travel a lot and stay at all different sort of hotels. This is the first time that I was asked to pay an additional $23 “destination fee” each night when I check out - you would expect that everything was paid at booking and you only pay for accidentals at check-out.This is eye-opening that there is additional charges called “destination fee”. I have not heard about an additional “destination fee” from any other hotels. This should be disclosed at booking. When I asked for clarification, the receptionist told me stop yelling, I was not yelling, just trying to clarify the unexpected extra charges imposing onto me. She asked me if I wanted to speak to a manager, and then told me that the manager is not even here to talk to me. Highly recommended everyone to be aware of this ridiculous situation, would not come back again. I paid $731 for 2-night upfront, it is absolutely not worth it, with such small and crappy room, also rude and unprofessional staff. I won’t be surprised if the business will be closed soon.

GREAT LOCATION IN Santa Monica We booked the Hotel for 2 nights, after we flew in from New Zealand, en route to San Francisco. I know the Santa Monica area well and was delighted with the location! Couldn’t be better. The rooms had fairly basic decoration, but had all the amenities - TV coffee maker, iron, safe etc. The bed was really comfy and the staff at the front desk were so friendly. The hotel has great kerb appeal and it was lovely coming back in the evening. The building is old and somewhat creaky, but didn’t disturb our rest. The bus stop to union station was across the street and the big blue buses run from LAX. Location, location, location (with friendly staff!). We will be back!

Great Hotel in fantastic location This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel and we love it. We were a family of 5 so got the family suite which was two bedrooms adjoining and one bathroom. It’s an older hotel but I cannot complain of the service , comfort or cleanliness during our stay. We actually made a mistake with our booking dates and the hotel happily refunded us the extra night we had paid for. Hotel Carmel is in a fantastic location within walking distance to Santa Monica pier and shops. We love it and will happily be back the next time we visit LA.
