5 Things You Can Only Do at a Chicago White Sox Game
The Chicago White Sox aren't the only baseball team in the city, but their home games are an experience unto itself. From witnessing the prolific power of sluggers Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia to watching the 2005 World Series banner ripple in the breeze, a White Sox game provides fans with privileges that other sports fans can only envy. To distill all of what makes Guaranteed Rate Field—known locally as Sox Park—special, we've come up with five one-of-a-kind reasons to catch a Sox game in person.
And if you already know you're in the market for White Sox tickets, click the below banner to find deals on seats. Not headed to the South Side? Then check out our handy guide to finding cheap baseball tickets for any MLB squad (and some standout Minor League teams, too).
1. Step up your beer game at the Craft Kave.
Ever go to the store looking for that one specific beer you've been craving, only to find out it's not available? That letdown doesn't exist inside the Craft Kave, a beer lover's paradise between sections 107 and 108. The coolers lining the walls in this bar house 75 different craft beers, a large proportion of which come from local and Midwestern microbreweries. Fans can pair their brews with the bar's craft burgers and enjoy it all on a two-tiered, open-air deck while watching the game.
2. Bask in the glow of one of MLB's largest scoreboards.
The White Sox's 2016 season saw the unveiling of brand-new, high-definition scoreboards in left, right, and center fields. At 8,000 square feet, the primary board in the middle is the park's pièce de résistance. The $7.3 million scoreboard is the 6th largest in the big leagues, giving every seat in the park a clear view of replays and real-time stats. And traditionalists need not fear—the classic pinwheels still extend from the top.
3. Nosh on top-notch (and totally unique) ballpark food.
You can get a good hot dog or a box of Cracker Jack at any stadium. But buffalo-chicken eggrolls? Bacon-cheddar pretzel hot dogs? Off-the-wall concoctions like these are what make seeing a White Sox game all the more special. But among the brisket-mac-and-grilled-cheese sandwiches and bacon on sticks, no food item at Guaranteed Rate Field stands out quite as much as the tater tatchos. A literal baseball helmet full of tater tots draped in tangy cheese and jalapeños, they're perfect for sharing with both friends and Instagram followers, and they make Guaranteed Rate Field one of the best MLB stadiums for ballpark food.
4. Experience some of the best promos and theme nights in baseball.
When the 2017 season is said and done, White Sox promotions will have been run on 51 of the team's 81 total home games, so you're almost guaranteed to see something unusual and fun at the park. There's Elvis Night, when counterfeit Kings fill the stands. On Mullet Night, wigged and 100% authentic versions of the eponymous hairstyle parade the field before the game. And who can forget Halfway to St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of the South Side's Irish population? There are also recurring events, such as Family Sundays and fireworks shows after Friday-night games.
5. If you're a kid, swing for the fences.
The 15,000-square-foot XFINITY Fundamentals deck invites youngsters aged 13 and under to test their skills on a youth-sized wiffle ball diamond. This multi-tiered area is perched above the left-field concourse and also features batting cages, base-running practice, and encouragement from mascot Southpaw. The XFINITY Fundamentals deck opens with the gates and stays open throughout the game.
