One in four people born after 1980 have a piercing "some place other than an earlobe," according to the Pew Research Center. If you're on Instagram, you probably think that number is a little low, that it should be closer to one in two people, especially when you remember that basic cartilage piercings aren't lobe piercings.
Needless to say, there are a lot of cute piercings on the social-media site. And here are some of our favorites, from trendy curated ears to cute nose piercings filled with petite jewelry.
Curated Ear #1
Piercings pictured: daith, cartilage, lobes
Good to know: Daiths are cute ear piercings that have become extremely popular in recent years. This particular ear features jewelry from Maria Tash, a celebrity piercer known for her delicate jewelry and for piercing the likes of Scarlett Johansson and FKA Twigs.
Healing time: 4–12 months (daith); 3–6 months (cartilage); 4–6 weeks (lobes)
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Sleeping comfortably on your side; having anyone accidentally touch your ear and not wanting to cry; pressing your ear against doors to hear conversations

Delicate Nose
Piercings pictured: nostril
Good to know: It's not uncommon for a nose piercing to come out, whether because the stud comes unscrewed while you sleep or because someone/something accidentally rips it out. If that happens, it's imperative to get the jewelry back through because the hole can close up quickly.
Healing time: 4–6 months
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Wearing makeup around the area, burying your face into your sig other's or dog's hair
Get your nose pierced.
Curated Ear #2
Piercings pictured: tragus, upper lobes
Good to know: Tragus piercings are great if you want the look of a curated ear without getting the same cartilage piercings as everyone else. This work was done by piercer Peter at the aforementioned Maria Tash's Liberty London location.
Healing time: 3–6 months (tragus); 4–6 weeks (lobes)
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Wearing earbuds without strategizing first; holding a phone against your ear; nuzzling your head against cats and babies
Get your ears pierced.
Minimalist Face
Piercings pictured: medusa AKA philtrum, nostrils
Good to know: A medusa piercing is one of the most popular cute piercings on Instagram, but if it's not placed directly in the center of the philtrum (the area right above the cupid's bow), it will ruin the symmetry of the face.
Healing time: 1.5–3 months (medusa); 4–6 months (nostrils)
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Sleeping on your stomach, forgoing oral hygiene
Get your face pierced.
Curated Ear #3
Piercings pictured: double forward helix, daith, conch, cartilage, lobes
Good to know: This perfectly curated ear originally had a snug piercing, but when it got rejected, this Instagrammer opted for a conch piercing to help cover her scar.
Healing time: 3–6 months (helix, cartilage); 6–12 months (conch); 4–12 months (daith); 4–6 weeks (lobes)
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Getting your hair cut and colored without first prepping the stylist; shoving your head through shirts all willy-nilly
Get your ears pierced.
Maximalist Face
Piercings pictured: nostrils, medusa, septum, lobe, stretched lobe piercing with plug
Good to know: By opting for thin rings and small studs like this, you can make your multiple facial piercings look both fierce and pretty. This Instagrammer also wears plugs in her stretched earlobes for an even bolder look.
Healing time: 4–6 months (nostrils); 1.5–3 months (medusa); 2–8 months (septum); 4–6 weeks (lobes);
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Smoking; swimming in pools, hot tubs, lakes, aquariums
Get your face pierced.
Curated Ear #4
Piercings pictured: anti-tragus, lobes
Good to know: The anti-tragus is directly opposite the tragus, hence the name.
Healing time: 3–6 months (anti-tragus); 4–6 weeks (lobes)
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Vigorously drying your hair with a towel; holding your ear closed so you can better hear yourself singing
Get your ears pierced.
Modern Bottom Lip
Piercing pictured: ashley, AKA inverse vertical labret
Good to know: Many ashley piercings use barbells with jewelry on one end and a flat disc on the other. The flat disc lies on the inside of the mouth.
Healing time: 4–6 months
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Wearing lipstick; eating overly spicy/oily/salty foods; kissing the mirror or others
Get your lip pierced.
Simple Ear
Piercing pictured: conch
Good to know: Conch piercings look great with a ring, but you may want to choose a stud at first. That's because rings come in contact with things like clothes, towels, and other people more easily than studs, which means rings take a little longer to heal.
Healing time: 6–12 months
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Cleaning your ear with a q-tip; putting anything in your ear in general
Get your ear pierced.
Edgy Bottom Lip
Piercings pictured: snake bite
Good to know: If you're going to get a snake bite piercing, you need to make sure your jewelry fits your mouth. If your jewelry is too big, it can hit your teeth and cause damage. These piercings have also been known to cause gum erosion.
Healing time: 2–4 months
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: Eating large bites of food; blowing bubbles with your gum
Get your lip pierced.
Lightly Embellished Face
Piercings pictured: septum, medusa, tragus, lobes
Good to know: Sucking on an ice cube can help alleviate the pain that follows a medusa piercing. Ibuprofen can help, too.
Healing time: 2–8 months (septum); 1.5–3 months (medusa); 3–6 months (tragus); 4–6 weeks (lobes)
Until you heal, say goodbye to these activities: drinking a lot of alcohol (it can damage the healing mouth tissue); playing sports where balls fly at your head
Get your face pierced.
