GROUPON GUIDE TO ERIE

The Best (And Worst) First Date Food

BY: Gina Russell |

The rumbling stomach. The fidgeting. The constant wardrobe change. These are all signs of the first date jitters. There's no way to predict if you and your date are going to have an instant connection and live happily ever after. However, there's some general dating etiquette you can keep in mind, particularly the best and worst kinds of food to order off the menu.

Best Date Food

Steak

An all American classic. With steak, you can use your knife and fork to cut tiny to chew, so it won't interrupt the conversation.

Risotto

The rice will stick to your utensil so it's pretty foolproof. Plus, any droppings shouldn't make an embarrassing stain.

Salad

Salads combine lots of ingredients that are easy to digest without being too full. However, stay away from spinach or seeds. You don't want to end the night realizing you had something in your teeth the entire date.

Pizza

Everyone loves pizza, and it's easy to eat. Just beware of greasy hands. Keep a lot of napkins available.

Sushi

But only if you're an avid eater. The stress of using chopsticks in front of a stranger you're trying to impress isn't worth it. Trust us.

Worst Date Food

Ribs

This should go without saying, but any meal that requires a Wet-Nap should be saved for a later date.

Spaghetti

This isn't Lady & The Tramp. If you're eating spaghetti, it is going to end up on your chin or your lap. These are just the facts.

Ramen

We know that the tender pork is enticing, but do you really want to have to slurp your food on the first date?

Burger with a fried egg

There is simply no way to neatly eat an egg-topped burger. Believe us, we've tried. Save yourself the messy hands and plate.

Oysters

Despite their aphrodisiac properties, oysters are just weird to eat in front of someone you hardly know. Unless it's your go-to, avoid these mollusks on the first date.
