An Insider's Guide to Foxwoods Resort and Casino

A trip to Foxwoods Resort and Casino can no doubt feel a little overwhelming when you realize just how many ways there are to while away the hours of your weekend. Eat first then a show? Golf first then a stroll? Poker or slots? Spa or shopping? But before your excitement bubbles over into full-blown panic, take a deep breath and read through our itinerary that outlines how to make the most of your weekend away.

Friday

After check-in: If the weather's cooperating, you can work up an appetite by hitting one of the many scenic Pequot walking trails on the property.

Dinner: To get in the spirit of your relaxing weekend, head to flavortown at Guy Fieri's Foxwoods Kitchen + Bar. The spacious, 9,800-square-foot restuarant is decorated in bold colors that match the bold flavors of the Food Network chef's signature dishes. If you really want to spice things up (literally), try pairing the jalapeño buffalo wings with the Caliente margarita, which uses jalapeño-infused tequila.

Evening entertainment: Foxwoods has shows almost nightly ranging from the musical stylings of John Legend and Foreigner to world-class DJ sets to comedy from mega stars like Sarah Silverman and Katt Williams. Just make sure to buy your seats in advance for hot-ticket performers.

Saturday

During the day: Kick off Saturday with a trip to the Foxwoods casino, where you'll be greeted by the sight of nearly 5,000 slot machines that feature a wide range of fun themes, from Wheel of Fortune to The Walking Dead and Orange is the New Black. As if that weren't enough, the Foxwoods Resort casino also has more than 200 table games plus racing books, keno games, and poker tournaments. And if gambling itself just isn't your thing, the arcade's mix of classics like Ms. Pac-Man and new favorites like Candy Crush has you covered.

Lunch: Refuel your competitive spirit at Fuddruckers, where you can pair a juicy build-your-own burger with an Oreo shake.

Dinner: To pair some pre-dinner fun with the meal itself, you'll definitely want to hit up Foxwoods' luxe onsite bowling alley and eatery, High Rollers. Part club, part bowling lane, part hip restaurant, High Rollers is where you can bowl a few frames while sipping a pomegranate martini before turning around and and grabbing a dinner of upscale pub fare. Open as late as 2 a.m. on Saturdays, it can be your whole night if your game is on fire.

Evening entertainment: Assuming you don't lose track of time, you'll want to hit up club Shrine before 10 p.m. since ladies will be able to get in for free. Once inside, the sprawling 21,000-square-foot nightclub is alive with energy, including regular performances from local DJs.

Pro tip: Make sure to leave the sneakers and sweats at home on Saturdays at Shrine; a sleek dress code is enforced.

Sunday

During the day: With 7,300 yards of fairways and greens, the Rees Jones–designed golf course is the perfect place to perfect that stroke. Five sets of tees at each hole make things even easier.

Lunch: Working up an appetite after your game is par for the course (see what we did there?), so you'll want to fill up with something hearty, like the diner-style burgers at Johnny Rockets at Tanger Outlets Foxwoods. Then you'll be in the perfect position to spend the rest of your lazy Sunday checking out the more than 70 designer and brand-name shops at the outlet mall.

Dinner: There's no better way to wrap up the weekend than by getting a little dressed up and diving into a perfectly grilled steak at David Burke Prime. A daily lobster menu offers five different preparations, and the standard menu makes meat-lovers' dreams come true with more than a dozen steaks plus five sauces to choose from.

Monday?

Relax!: Looking for an excuse to extend your vacation? The resort has one built in: special spa discounts and packages that only apply on weekdays. Save money on treatments at Norwich Spa like the Crystal Peel cream microdermabrasion, a machine-free process that sloughs away dead skin, when they offer all of their services at lower rates on Monday. Similarly, at G Spa and Salon, you can design your own custom spa package, but only on Mondays–Fridays.
