If you’re one of the four or five million babies born on Leap Day, celebrating your official birthday only once every four years might be kind of a drag. But amid the tall grasses and palms of the Rio Grande Valley, two neighboring towns want to change that. Anthony, Texas and Anthony, New Mexico are collectively known as the Leap Year Capital of the World, and they’ve earned the title. Since 1988, these towns outside El Paso have thrown a joint festival every four years to help leap-year babies celebrate their birthdays. Here’s how to spend a long Leap Day weekend in the area if your birthday falls on February 29, or even if it doesn’t.

Friday, February 26

12 p.m. | Franklin Mountains State Park in El Paso, Texas

Kick off your weekendlong celebration by feeling on top of the world. A ride the Wyler Aerial Tramway provides great views of the city and surrounding desert.

5 p.m. | Camino Real Hotel in El Paso, Texas

After checking in, have a drink at the bar under the hotel’s century-old Tiffany glass dome.

Try Desert Rain, a mix of sauvignon blanc, malvasia, and moscato wines.

Sunday, February 28

Hand-painted skulls, anyone? Find them here, as well as handcrafted pottery, jewelry, and  dried chilies.

2 p.m. | Dos Lagos Golf Course in Anthony, New Mexico

Try not to get distracted by the mountain views when you’re lining up a shot.

Monday, February 29
