Pummarola Pastificio Pizzeria, Boca Raton

As an Italian mother and grandmother, Rosa Donna Rummo took the responsibility of feeding her family seriously. Every Sunday, in preparation for her family dinners, she'd gather up her grocery list and get into her car. The car was a little red Fiat, and highly recognizable to her neighbors, who soon granted it the nickname of the "pummarola," which meant "tomato" in the Neopolitan dialect. Inspired by the nickname, Rosa opened Pummarola in 1968, where she'd cook up pizza and pasta for more than just her family. The restaurant was successful for over two decades, until Rosa passed away. When her grandchildren grew up, they were inspired by their Nonna to resurrect the legacy of Pummarola in a new restaurant. Today, Pummarola serves up pizza, pasta, and paninis just like the ones Rosa used to make on Sundays.
