Cordele, Georgia: Outdoor Activities and Small-Town Attractions Off the Beaten Path

In his poem “Back Roads to Macon,” Raymond Farr captures the small-town charm of Cordele when he describes a mailbox's hand-painted sign scribbled with the folksy adage, "Whatever your destination, thank God you arrive." The town that inspired Farr sits off the beaten path—about 2.5 hours south of Atlanta. It's dotted with antique shops and quirky specialty museums showcasing the history of cotton-harvesting tools and vast collections of telephones.

The dry Atlantic coastal-plain climate permits year-round outdoor activities. Three miles of hiking trails wind through a wetland ecosystem inhabited by deer, red foxes, and lost hikers.

We had a room with two double beds, and the room was spacious and clean. We stayed in a "Villa" which had its own screened in porch overlooking the gorgeously manicured grounds. The beds were extremely comfortable. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone, whether they play golf or not.

Southern Tour Winter of 2025 This is a beautiful campground! Very Clean well kept park! The views are stunning! We will be back! We were only able to stay 1 night and it was our first time to visit. We had just visted Jimmy ands Roslyn in Plains and were working our way back to I-75. This is one of the niceest state parks we have visited. Great hook-ups and easy to pull our camper.

The cabin was perfect. Very clean. Very comfortable beds. Nicely stocked kitchen!! We completely enjoyed our stay!!! Great stay. Great stocked kitchen. Very comfortable beds. Very clean house. We all enjoyed our stay. The weather was very cold so we didn’t get out a lot. We put together 2 puzzles (left those for the next guest). We enjoyed looking out at the water too. Beautiful view!

Perfect place for the nature lovers We have stayed several times. This is a state park about 10 miles West of I 75. Located in Veterans State Park. They offer 10, 2 bedroom cottages on the lake. Other amenities include: full marina, archery, golf course, disc golf, hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, camping and a museum. The cottages are very comfortable and have a screened porch and wood burning fireplace. Outdoors a charcoal grill and picnic table under massive shade trees. Beautiful setting. Peaceful place to unwind.
