Nestled in the rustic beauty of upstate New York's Adirondack Forest Preserve, Lapland Lake Nordic Vacation Center invites vacationers to tackle winter like their Scandinavian forebears: atop a pair of cross-country skis. Skiiers and snowshoers glide through scenic woodland and courses designed by Olympic skiier Olavi Hirvonen, while skaters practice their loops and Salchows on the ice of a nearby pond. Visitors in warmer months have plenty to do, too; during those sun-dappled days, the resort is open only to overnight guests and fills its schedules with canoeing, kayaking, swimming and hiking.
