Borrego Springs, California: Stargazing Hub amid Expansive Anza-Borrego Desert

For millennia, humans dwelled beneath a dark night sky dotted with millions of stars after the sun sank each evening. Over the past century, however, light pollution has drowned out constellations in urbanized hot spots around the world. Not so in Borrego Springs, the second place in the world dubbed a Dark Sky Community by the International Dark-Sky Association.

USA Today praises the Anza-Borrego Desert as one of the “top spots for stargazing out West.” In the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, sky watchers can glimpse the Milky Way, constellations, and even other galaxies. Though the focus is on the sky at night, there’s plenty to do during the day, including hiking, biking, and golfing.

As long as you don't mind not seeing virtually any hotel staff, making the Inn more of an AirBnb, it's a great place: quiet, nice pool & jacuzzi, private patio, and decent breakfast served in your room.

Wonderful cozy and quiet place in great location with views in all directions. Only the payment of an additional resort fee was unexpected and is a nuisance, not worthy a high level place.

Rejuvenate Your Spirit at the Borrego Valley Inn! My husband and I needed to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life to a place that rejuvenates the spirit. Your hotel was the perfect place to enjoy quietude, serenity and the awesome beauty of the surrounding mountains and desert. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the room and the well- maintained courtyard and swimming pool areas. The daily breakfast was delicious and healthy. We will definitely be back soon!

Decent Option in Borrego Springs Pros: Nice newer property in good condition, including rooms Nice continental breakfast delivered to your room - enjoyable to sit out in front of room on the chairs and table provided Upscale linens and towels Upscale bathroom amenities Cons: Very limited service/no room service - breakfast staff are there in the morning if you need anything at that time Pool area a bit lacking - minimal shade and the floor area is the dirt desert floor - not fun for the feet - basic cheap loungers Rooms are sparsely furnished - no dresser, desk, nightstands, bathroom vanity, closet/luggage rack, nor any patio loungers (when they tout private sunbathing?), no comfortable seating

Great getaway spot We loved our stay at Borrego Valley Inn! We had a king suite with a fireplace and patio. We stargazed from the back patio, relaxed in the jacuzzi, slept well in the comfy bed, and enjoyed the delivered breakfast in the morning on the sunny front patio! It was the perfect location to access several desert hikes and points of interest. I wish we could have stayed another day or two!! Just make sure they have your contact info so they can send you a code to get into your room. We reserved through a 3rd party and they didn’t have our info which caused delays in our check in.
