For Captain Carl, setting sail on one of his Marco Island Fun Tours hardly qualifies as working. Every trip he embarks on—whether skimming along the mangrove forests, searching for seashells on a beach accessible only by boat, or escaping a pod of furious mermaids—is a family outing. The crew comprises only members of Captain Carl's family, and is the inspiration for Marco Island Fun Tours. Back when he started the business, his biggest motivation was to give folks a chance to bond with their own kin and "enjoy time on the water." To that end, the captain takes passengers out on private charters, leads kid-friendly tours in search of dolphins, or spirits guests toward unfettered views of the sunset.
