At Center Acupuncture, licensed acupuncturist, herbologist, and founder Dan Poreda sets out to trigger the body's natural healing abilities with a range of traditional-Chinese-medicine techniques. After logging five years of hands-on experience in Oriental Medicine at Touro College, Dan went to China to train in herbal medicine and advanced acupuncture techniques with a specialty pain management and physical rehabilitation. While there, he also studied at the elbow of Dr. Zhang Zhi Wen, who taught Dan such advanced healing techniques as wen bing, which treats upper respiratory illnesses. After returning, Dan teamed up with Liza Uma Pollock, whose specialties in treating stress, emotional imbalances, and women's disorders complement his own specialties in treating upper respiratory and digestive illness and in pain management.

Before clients undergo such healing treatments as acupuncture, tui na massage, or cupping, Dan and Liza conduct a thorough examination. During this time, clients explain their wellness issues and work with the acupuncturist to formulate a treatment plan and pick out names for their biceps. Then they receive acupuncture treatments that can help alleviate pain and release painful trigger points in the neck and back.
