What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Mickey specializes in teaching women and gender non-conforming students (men are welcome too!) who seek a supportive, safe, and non-competitive environment where they can learn to play drums and empower themselves to master an instrument that they've not previously had the resources to explore.

Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
I'll provide everything we need for the lesson: top of the line drum-sets, n extensive library of drum instruction books, plenty of sticks, pen and paper, speakers for listening to music, and other learning tools such as guitars and keyboards!

What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
When I first moved to NYC, I began working with Tom Tom Magazine on a drum school run by women. The goal was to provide a space for women to learn from other women in a field largely dominated by men. I found myself tremendously inspired by the responses we got, and eventually opened my own studio.

What do you love most about your job?
Getting to build a relationship with students and see them grow in more ways than they expected through the discipline of learning and mastering an instrument. The pure joy they start tapping into as their skills develop - the feeling of playing music that they'd always imagined.
