Buffalo Range Shooting Park, Ottawa

At a Glance

Located just steps from the Illinois River, Buffalo Range Shooting Park provides those of all ages with fun (and safe) shooting experiences. Its five outdoor ranges are home to trap shooting, as well as the park's Run and Gun course, which features barricades and cover-fire positions allowing participants to shoot at multiple targets while on the move and transition between their rifles and pistols. As a park, there is also a wealth of open space and picnic benches where visitors can relax.

In addition to everyday visits, Buffalo Range hosts trainings led by Final Defense, Inc. Final Defense's state-licensed instructors offer NRA Basic Pistol, low-light night, and Illinois concealed-carry classes, among others.

The Pit

• Spacious open range
• Target assessment between 40 and 75 yards
• Targets such as stuffed animals and milk jugs

Pistol Range

• Enclosed range
• 18 lanes: 3 lanes of 5-yard targets, 9 lanes of 10-yard targets, 6 lanes of 15-yard targets
• Heated and well- lit space

Rifle Range

• Outdoor range
• Roof covering for protection from the elements
• 28 100-yard lanes

Auxiliary Range

• 17 50-yard lanes
• Portable lighting
• Home of Run and Gun course

Trap Range

• 7 areas
• Outdoor range with roof covering
• String clay throwers, which can launch multiple clay targets simultaneously
