Q&A with Amber, Operations Manager
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Easily the best part of being a "cryotherapist" is the reward of bringing relief to those who have been suffering from chronic pain or serious ailments. It's especially fun turning skeptics into believers... after just 3 minutes. Many people who live in chronic pain have tried everything under the sun - oftentimes undergoing months of treatments and therapies with little to no result. Cryotherapy is a systemic reaction in the body. It is not just about getting an injury cold to reduce inflammation - it is a whole body reaction to your skin temperature (not internal temperature) dropping so quickly. Your body releases it's own "medicine" & oxygenates all of the blood it has pulled into your core. When clients step out, that enriched blood gets pushed back out through the entire body. Watching peoples' faces as they experience that feeling for the first time is the best part of this job.
What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
At Chill N Out we strive to create a personal relationship with all of our customers and tailor the treatment experience to their needs & comfort levels. We want the session to feel more like a visit to the spa than the doctor's office: spacious, comfortable dressing rooms; private treatment rooms; soft lighting. We know most first-timers struggle more with nervousness than with the actual procedure itself, so the one-on-one time with the tech allows an opportunity for clients to ask as many questions as they need to put their minds at ease.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Many people who have tried cryotherapy in a nitrogen machine and didn't like it for one reason or another should give the electric machine a try. There are 3 pretty big differences between the two types of machines:
1. More effective: Electric chambers have about 30% more autonomic nervous system response vs. Nitrogen chambers. Because our units do not use any hazardous gases, you are free to breathe normally in the unit, and we can expose the entire head and neck to the cold temperatures. This actually makes the session a lot easier to tolerate, similar to how your body will feel warmer when you go swimming in a cold pool, once you finally dip your head under the water.
2. Less expensive: Cryotherapy becomes much more affordable without the use of nitrogen, which is a costly gas. This allows us to drastically lower the cost of treatment for YOU, the client! Especially when comparing unlimited packages. Our unlimited monthly memberships are 30% less than competitors.
3. More comfortable: The number one complaint we hear about people who tried cryotherapy in a nitrogen machine and did not like it, is how painful it was on their legs. The reason for this is because nitrogen is a heavy gas, and it sinks low in the chamber you stand in. In order to get your chest area (the most important part of the treatment) to drop the full 30 degrees required, your legs will often be 40 to 50 degrees colder, which can actually cause skin burns. Because the electric unit uses ambient room air, the distribution of cold is completely even in the treatment chamber.
