Siemon & Salazar is a design studio created by Caleb Siemon and Carmen Salazar. The duo have been working together to design and make hand blown glass art, vessels, and lighting in Southern California since 1999. Their work is rooted in modern minimalism and embraces its inherent timeless qualities. The studio’s aesthetic reflects the evolved craftsmanship of the Muranese tradition and the balance and restraint of the Scandinavians, coupled with a love for California culture, style, and terrain.

Caleb and Carmen met while undergraduates at the Rhode Island School of Design, where Caleb focused on glass and Carmen on sculpture. After RISD, Caleb apprenticed with renowned master glassblower Pino Signoretto in Venice, Italy, while Carmen lived and worked in San Francisco for an array of artists with focuses in varied mediums, from metal working, glass, and wood, to living materials and conceptual public art. Fueled by a passion for the medium and a desire to carry on the centuries-old art form, Caleb returned to California to build his own Italian-style studio. Carmen joined him to help make the dream a reality along with an ever-changing collection of visiting artists and friends that helped shape the studio’s design and approach.

Today the workshop is more streamlined, but the collaborative mindset persists. The studio regularly works with designers and architects to create custom projects and exclusive lines. “Glassblowing is a team sport,” says Caleb. “It requires a united effort from multiple people to create one design, whether it is a bud vase or a large intricate installation.” Every glass piece is made to order and hand formed by the talented crew at the studio in Santa Ana. All custom metal components are designed in house, then fabricated and finished locally in Southern California. This allows the team to maintain the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship in every one of their designs.
