Every winter, mallards head south to renew their Mexican-hat-dancing licenses, and more importantly, to pick up some authentic cuisine and a few shots of tequila before heading home. Today's Groupon lets you experience the ways of the winter duck without ever leaving the Charlotte area: for $15, you get $30 worth of authentic Mexican cuisine and drinks at 1900 Mexican Grill. Your Groupon is only good at the Elizabeth Avenue location, but is good for lunch, dinner, and drinks during lunch and dinner.

For lunch, choose from a variety of appetizers, soups, and salads to kick off your pre-siesta feast. Start with a pile of nachos ($8) or melty quesadillas ($9). Demand the soup of the day, or politely request a fried-chicken salad ($9) or taco salad ($8). Everyone is entitled to personal favorites, but 1900 Mexican Grill has a few recommendations that should be taken into consideration—you are eating in their house after all. Veggie fajitas ($7) or enchiladas verdes ($8.50) are among the chosen few. It has also compiled a few friendly combos to aid the indecisive: get any pair of tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, burritos, or chimichangas for $6.50.

The dinner starts the same but potentially ends with a surprise confrontation with Swiss pop duo Double (pronounced Double). Chicken, beef, and fish make up the three main meat groups of supper. Grilled adobo-rubbed salmon is $14, and rib-eye marinated in tequila and Mexican spices is $16. The menu also offers a multitude of tacos, burritos, fajitas, and Mexican sandwiches. You can also create a combo where you can get one ($7.50), two ($8.50),or three ($9.50) shelled treats, such as burritos, tacos, tamales, tostadas, and more in any combination.

The restaurant strictly abides by the old adage: when in Mexico, drink tequila and margaritas. It offers more than 50 types of tequila and 25 original margaritas ranging from $6–$15. No dinner would be complete without sampling the national drink of Mexico. A few rounds will make a good night a buzz-worthy night you won't want to end, which the restaurant takes into consideration when listing its weekend close hours as "?"

Reviews

Urbanspooners give it an 87% rating, and a lone cowboy Yelper gives it four stars:

  • Overall the quality may be one notch higher than your standard mexican restaurant that many of us have grown accustomed to in the south. – Austin R., Yelp
