$35 Groupon for $15 at Lalo's

Given that Lalo's Mexican Restaurant has served up high-quality Mexican cuisine with fresh ingredients to satisfied customers for more than 30 years, it's safe to say that Chicagoans know Lalo's like a good jockey knows his racing horse. Much in the way a jockey fondly strokes his steed's mane, Chicagoans lovingly pet Lalo's Shrimp Fajitas before voraciously devouring them. The feeling of total satisfaction and freedom the jockey gets from his hair blowing in the wind as his horse gracefully leaps over and ducks under the equestrian limbo poles is like the feeling of liberation experienced by the long-haired Lalo's customer who, after enjoying a Guisado de Lomo (rib eye steak in chile de arbol sauce), feels the ends of his long braids blowing softly in gusts of steam coming from his ears.
Equestrians and Mexican food lovers alike will enjoy today's $35 Groupon to Lalo's on N. Clybourn for just $15. If Ben Franklin was on the $20 bill, you'd be getting a free Benjamin with this deal. As it is, two free Hamiltons ain't bad.
Today's deal is redeemable at the 1960 N. Clybourn Lalo's location - which happens to be the best Lalo's in the land. So get your Groupon, and gallop on down. You can always go for the sure bets: Lalo's has some of the city's best tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and quesadillas - all with the perfect balance of veggies, meats and cheeses - but don't be afraid to try something new. Groupon recommends Lalo's Traditional Mexican Cenas - in particular, the pollo con mole poblano: tender pieces of chicken simmered Lalo's unique mole sauce. In case you don't know about mole sauce, it's an amazingly complex, unique combination of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. While there are many varieties across Mexico, mole usually contains a variety of ground peppers, chocolate, tomatoes and roasted seeds. It's a painstaking, time-consuming process to cook a good mole, and a connoisseur of Mexican food will judge a restaurant by it's mole. Lalo's delicious mole features 16 ingredients, including the aforementioned staples plus raisins, peanut butter, and sesame seeds, with a combination of four peppers: chile ancho, chile pasilla, chile guajillo and chile mulato.
Vegetarians will enjoy Lalo's Chiles Rellenos: two poblano peppers filled with cheese, egg-battered and pan-fried then covered in ranchera sauce. Chile Rellenos are deeper than deep-dish pizza, if you can believe it. And for dessert, set your sights on the flute-shaped Fruit Tacos, filled with mango and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar with a scoop of ice scream. The perfect palate cleanser after a spicy Lalo's meal.
Of course, one cannot speak of Lalo's without mentioning the margaritas. Not only does Lalo's serve six different flavors - guava, strawberry, peach, mango, raspberry and traditional - but they have served them to many a famous historical figure. Einstein, Zapata, Neil Armstrong and the Mona Lisa have all partaken of Lalo's margaritas, and allowed their images to be framed in margarita ads in the Lalo's online margarita scrapbook. You could be the next person to be immortalized in a framed Lalo's margarita portrait, riding gallantly upon your horse across a pastoral landscape, your locks splayed flowingly in the air as you joyously slurp a guava margarita.
