Q&A with Dan, Owner & Operator

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
With many of our instructors growing up around water, our passion for wind and water was establish right from the start. Upon graduating high school, many of our instructors started their quest to learn kiteboarding. After a few years of developing my own skills I began instructing at several places around the world that finally lead me to start my own school in Winnipeg, MB. Based as a snow kiting school, we introduced many prairie folks to the wonders of taking advantage of the cold winter winds and began to start forming our Aerial Kiteboarding staff team. Moving then towards Squamish, we have developed into the biggest water kite school in the province, if not the country. Aerial Kiteboarding is now expanding into a Watersports Center now offering SUP rentals and tours, white water tours, wakeboarding lessons and experiences as well as luxurious boat tours. With our Aerial Kiteboarding team, we have been able to uphold a very high standard of teaching with our experienced instructors coming back every year.

As the old adage says, “Stuff happens.” What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
Our team meet regularly to discuss the happenings of the days behind us as well as new and exciting teaching techniques that they have either discovered or tried out successfully. Once a week, we have a team meeting to discuss all these things and constantly figure out the best ways of teaching our students. As we have always continued to invest into our school, we have increased our operation and our success every year to now be the best school around by far.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
Being out on the water and sharing my passion with new kiters is by far the best part of the job. I have been fortunate to create a successful business that creates a wonderful work environment for not only myself but my team of 6-10 employees and friends.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn’t cover?
With our new expansion of our shop in Squamish, Aerial Kiteboarding the Squamish Watersports Center is now the closest and most easily accessible school around. Our downtown location is now providing a comfortable atmosphere for students to meet us, get changed and even buy gear that is 20 minutes closer than any other schools. Teaching from our downtown location also allows us to stay away from the business of the Squamish Spit and keep our students in a calm and inviting atmosphere.
