What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Aikido of South Florida is a traditional Japanese dojo in Downtown Hollywood that has been established for over 25 years. Yap Sensei holds a 6th degree black belt and the Menkyo Kaiden in Aiki-Ken and Aiki-Jo, trains 4-8 weeks annually in Japan & teaches seminars regularly worldwide.
What’s one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
Make a commitment. Whether you want to to train for self-defense, refinement of the mind, body or spirit- If you cannot train on a regular basis, your progress will not be as you anticipated and you will feel discouraged . Keep in mind to train to achieve these goals and invest the time and effort.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Giving Back. Sharing the philosophy of aikido to help others develop their own natural sense of self-worth and empowerment through diligent training & discipline. Also, for many years we have been fundraising with AHAN & Aiki Relief Foundation, NPO serving underprivileged and charities worldwide.
What do you love most about your job?
Love the Benefits: The Aikido community extends beyond the training of the art. It forges bonds of friendship that has lasted decades. Daily training improves flexibility of the mind and body, which in essence develops self-confidence, concentration, character, awareness and compassion for others.
