The Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, the Akron Aeros opened the 2011 season with the debut of Homer, the team's cuddly purple polka-dotted pigeon mascot. As the season meanders through the dog days of summer, Aeros outfielder Tim Fedroff has emerged as the most potent bat in the Aeros' offense, currently hitting a team-high .345 with 34 RBIs, and averaging a career-best 1.7 hot dogs eaten per game.
The Aeros make their home in downtown Akron's Canal Park, which boasts picnic areas and one of the minor league's largest freestanding scoreboards. The intimate 9,097-seat park affords fans a close-up opportunity to watch dazzling double plays and chant heartbreaking Elizabeth Barrett Browning poems at opposing hitters.
