Used during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, the SS American Victory spends its retirement in the Channel District spinning its patriotic life story for the public. One of just four fully operational World War II–era ships in the country, the 67-year-old steamship proudly displays photographs, medals, and naval gear while expressing its undying hope of once again liberating Paris. Visitors can step foot inside the three-level cargo hold, stage historically accurate food-fight reenactments in the mess hall, and see what kind of signaling equipment was necessary to order a pizza in the South Pacific.
