About Austin American-Statesman

The Austin American-Statesman traces its roots back to 1871, when it was still called the Democratic Statesman. After a few major mergers, it finally took on its current title in 1924, the same year future U.S. president Herbert Hoover began campaigning to have vacuums named after him.

Today, the Austin American-Statesman has numerous publications under its umbrella, including six community newspapers, the Spanish-language newspaper ¡Ahora Sí!, and the entertainment-based Austin 360. In 2014, the paper totally revamped its website in order to create a better, visual-driven reading experience. All told, the Statesman's print products reach more than 638,000 readers every week, and its digital platforms attract nearly five million visitors every month.
