About Autobahn Indoor Speedway - Memphis
On the Autobahn in Germany, you'll find some of the most challenging (and rewarding) driving available to private citizens anywhere in the world. A portion of that design prowess made its way across the ocean, where it now rests at Memphis's Autobahn Indoor Speedway. Here, g-kart drivers test the limits of their racing abilities on a course modeled after some of the European greats. Read on to learn more:
- The Karts: The vehicles at Autobahn aren't your typical dinky fun center rides. Inspired by the karts used by young drivers on the Formula 1 ladder system, these pro-grade karts can reach speeds of up to 50mph. Youngsters, take heart: the track also maintains a fleet of junior karts.
- The Course: Boasting more than a dozen turns spread across a serpentine layout, the course at Autobahn draws inspiration from the world-class road courses of Europe and the Americas. It's even named after one: around here, everyone knows the course as Le Mans.
- The Tips: While every driver has their own preferences, the team at Autobahn offers two tips for successful racing: accelerate smoothly, and slow down to enter turns before speeding up to exit. You can find more go-karting tips in our interview with Indianapolis 500 veteran (and go-kart enthusiast) Pippa Mann.
