Pupils begin to master sport that uses kites to propel snowboarders or skiers up, down & across snow-swathed terrain

Until mankind first stepped outside in 1934, nature was thought to be a fanciful myth, like yogurt or the clutch hitter. Spend a few hours frolicking through the fresh air of truth with today’s Groupon for snowkiting lessons at Best Snowkite Center. Choose between the following options:

  • For $89, you get a three-hour introductory snowkiting lesson (a $175 value).
  • For $169, you get a four-hour Kite on Snow lesson, designed for intermediate snowkiters (a $349 value).<p>

Snowkiting combines the smooth-riding efficacy of skiing or snowboarding with the aerial dynamism of a windswept kite to whisk winter explorers up, down, and across powdered terrain. During introductory classes, students learn the basics of snowkite safety, including how to manage weather conditions, rig a four-line inflatable kite, and use their line to reel in elusive snow sharks. Pupils will wrangle with the high-flying sail of a training kite during the sessions, and can expect to depart with the ability to make controlled turns across frosty terrain if they take to the sport naturally.

More experienced alpine adventurers can enlist in the Kite on Snow lesson, where instructors impart advanced knowledge as pupils begin to master the skills needed to achieve the airborne pirouettes and wind-harnessing speeds facilitated by snowkiting. The Center provides kites, harnesses, and bar grips for each lesson, but students must provide their own skis or snowboard and a helmet. Students without a board, skis, or helmet should contact the Center in advance to check if additional fees may apply. Lessons begin at 9 a.m. and take place in nearby terrain that Best Snowkite Center selects based on daily wind conditions and proximity to the moon’s orbital pull.

About Utah Snowkite Center

The experts at Utah Snowkite Center lead courses and clinics on how to harness wind power across open, snow-dusted areas around Salt Lake City and Park City. In sessions ranging from beginner to pro level, students strap into harnesses, kites, and bars provided by the instructors and begin gliding along the snow, eventually learning how to perform tricks like spins and grabs or pulling a rabbit out of your ski boot. Students must provide their own skis or snowboards and helmets for each lesson. In addition to local excursions, Utah Snowkite Center also organizes snowkiting trips throughout the US and to international destinations such as New Zealand and Yukon.
