Pirate party ships are much more entertaining than pirate discos, where Saturday night fever generally leads to Sunday morning scurvy. Meet party-throwing pirates on their own turf with today’s Groupon for a voyage on the Black Raven Pirate Ship in St. Augustine. Choose one of the following options:

  • $18 for an adult ticket on a “Club 21+” cruise, departing at 8:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights (a $28.50 value)
  • $40 for a family voyage (two adults and two children) on an all-ages cruise, departing at 6:15 p.m. daily, and at 2:15 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays (an $85 value).

The Black Raven Pirate Ship sets visitors a-sail on a 1.5- to 2-hour voyage (depending on weather and the bridge opening) around the adventure-laden waters of the Matanzas River. The talented crew of method marauders ensures that passengers leave land-lubbing attitudes dockside and leap peg-leg first into a live, improvised pirate show, unleashing inner buccaneers that normally surface during Black Friday early bird sales. The Club 21+ adults-only cruise commandeers a crew of thrill-seeking swashbucklers and regales them with songs, skits, and stories only fit for the ears of salty seadogs. With a hold stocked full of libertine librations, the winsome wenches and mirthful mariners have little trouble inducing passengers to sing along with bawdy shanties or devise ribald mnemonic devices for remembering Davy Jones’ locker combination.

The standard family-themed cruise has the fun-loving freebooters slipping on their hook cozies to provide tamer travel to voyagers of all ages. You and your sea pups (ages 3–12) will be treated to true, kid-friendly pirate stories, magical mayhem, an occasional black powder demonstration, and authentic pirate games like bean-bag toss, rumor mill, and musical chairs. Space on the skylarking scoop should be reserved in advance, and all departure times are strict in order to coincide with bridge openings, so late-comers will have to charter a private manatee, or face a mutinous ride home.

Reviews

Black Raven Pirate Ship was featured in St Augustine News. TripAdvisors give it an average of four owl eyes:

  • I went aboard this replica of a Spanish Galeon and was greeted by Pirates who were very entertaining during the cruise. They told stories of past pirate attacks along with magic, mystery, sing a longs and mayhem. Everyone had a fantastic time. – Denise Kaminsky, St Augustine News
  • We were on the Black Raven on Friday night for the kid friendly cruise and it was great! We had 5 people in my group ranging in age from 4 to 85 and we all had a great time. Thanks to all the crew for giving us all a nonstop cruise of fun! – HillarytheTraveler, TripAdvisor

About The Pirate Ship Black Raven

The red and black ship cuts through the waters of Matanzas Bay, its sails waving in the wind. On deck, members of a pirate crew call one another by names such as Oly Mackarel, Jaybird, Anastasia, Clipper, and Dirty James as they cavort between bow and stern, dazzling their audiences. Their ship, the Black Raven, was designed as a floating live performance theater—and accommodates more than 120 passengers as a crew of performers in full buccaneer dress produce interactive and dynamic plays in the spotlight. The actors work the crowd with a variety of rehearsed but unscripted skits, geared toward audiences of all ages, and may change their performance to engage specific audience members.
