This summer take advantage of car-less transportation to Cape Cod with Boston Harbor Cruises' Provincetown Fast Ferry. This fast ferry gets you from Boston to Provincetown in 90 minutes flat for great shopping, great dining, and plenty of other great Cape Cod activities. Cruise the open water, soaking up rays on the deck or hitting the bar (with comfy chairs and WiFi) in the cabin. Plus you can experience Cape Cod without the side effects of traffic and parking hassles, which may include Cape Rage, Cape Bloodlust, and Cape-somnia.

The ferry departs from Long Wharf in Boston and the return trip leaves from MacMillan Wharf in Provincetown. During the entire week, ferries leave Boston at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and depart Provincetown at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Thursdays through Sundays, an additional ferry leaves Boston at 6:30 p.m. and Provincetown at 8:30 p.m. Departure times are good through September 6. Check the full schedule for more details and post-Labor Day info. The shark-less boat ride is quicker than the alternative: a car ride is more than two hours long (with the worst sharks).

Citysearchers give Boston Harbor Cruises 4.5 stars and Yelpers give it 3.5 stars:

  • I had never been to Provincetown so I decided to take the ferry there. I was very happy with the experience, the trip out there was so fast and comfortable, I went on a Thursday which wasn't too busy and there was plenty of room on board. You do need to get there early to purchase tickets the line was long. – JustinOKane, Citysearch
  • We took the Fast Ferry to Provincetown and believe me it is fast. We got to Ptown in about 90 minutes. I warn you though that if you get seasick easily do not think of sitting inside despite the electric outlets, free wifi and comfortable chairs. – Andrew D., Yelp
  • The ferry was large, clean, fast, smooth and full of amenities I wasn't expecting. The bottom deck had a bar with food, drinks, wine and beer...On the first and second decks there was bench seating outside, chairs inside, and booths along the windows. – Christopher M., Yelp

Traditional Provincetown Pilgrim Poem

Provincetown, currently home to the largest population of retired Pilgrims in the world, was once the epicenter of Pilgrim-poets who eloquently captured the town's unique Pilgrim-spirit. The following is one of the most highly regarded Pilgrim-penned Provincetown poems circa 1600s-ish:

Pilgrims are the best,
We decided to go west,
For vacation (but we called it freedom),
So we founded P-Town,
Had a ferry travel down,
From Boston with the utmost speed, ma'am,

P-Town! P-Town!
Shops and plays and restaurants and fests!
Provincetown, a Pilgrimy town,
P-Town beaches are the best!

That catchy poem can be hummed while enjoying authentic Pilgrim activities such as hanging out, sunbathing, or just doing whatever. Besides inventing the turkey, Provincetown thankfully gave us local art and colorful taverns as well. As the Pilgrims still say, history is best appreciated as it is happening forthwith, bro.

About Boston Harbor Cruises - OLD

At the age of 16, Matthew "Matty" Hughes became the youngest-ever licensed captain in the port of Boston. Funneling his passion into a career, he founded Boston Harbor Cruises in 1926 to lead tours up the Charles River. What began as a two-man, one-boat operation has grown tremendously throughout its more than 90-year history, now encompassing a 52-boat fleet and more than 400 employees who transport more than 2.5 million passengers.

The Boston Harbor Cruises staff handles all things nautical, from whale watching and Codzilla thrill ride tours to wedding receptions and celebrations for special occasions. Because dolphins are hard to saddle and refuse to obey verbal commands, Boston Harbor Cruises also navigates the waters with ferries and harbor cruises that explore the historic and romantic sights of Boston.

Though the leadership has changed, Matty's grandchildren and great grandchildren still perpetuate the traditions of Boston Harbor Cruises, furthering one man's obsession with the harbor and inspiring future generations to create their own memories on its inviting waters.
