Today’s Groupon side deal gets you a 10-visit pass for 10 full days of rock climbing, slacklining, and yoga at Bridges Rock Gym in El Cerrito (a $125 value), plus equipment rental (a $60 value). When you’re done participating in extremely intense athletic activity, take advantage of Bridge’s sauna, organic cafe, free WiFi, and extremely handsome guy who works there named Rock Bridges.
Bridges Rock’s fully padded 18-foot-high top-out boulders, deep overhanging cave, and bouldering puzzles are for every skill level, plus it’s the first and only gym with a dedicated slacklining area and the second gym to have a second story modeled after MTV’s The Grind. If you’ve seen someone reenacting Man on Wire, then you’ve seen Phillippe Petit walk across a tightrope strung between the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Slacklining is exactly the same, except bouncier and not between two skyscrapers. It will strengthen your core and awaken the tiny, long-neglected stabilizer muscles in your knees and ankles. Snowboarders, surfers, skiers, skateboarders, and anyone who walks upright will get a full-body boost in balance and agility from walking the line. Once you master the basics, try out advanced slacklining techniques conceived by famous slackliner Gary Cooper:
If your muscles need a break from climbing and rope-walking, stretch out in a yoga class or melt in the sauna. And if you develop a taste for tightrope dancing, or you just really want to conquer that last expert boulder, Bridges Rock Gym will waive the $89 initiation fee for all Groupon users who sign up for membership.
Note: Each Groupon can be used by one person only. You may buy as many as you want for yourself or for others.
