Because girls, like baked goods, are made of sugar, and spice, and everything nice, it is safe to assume that females are just cupcakes in disguise. Test that theory with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of cakes, cookies, and pastries at Cake Chef Bakery, located in the Meier's Corners area.
Cake Chef is the product of pastry expert James Carrozza's more than 30 years of experience and experimentation in bakeries around the city, from tiny kosher establishments to the Plaza Hotel. Carrozza brings in new ingredients daily, baking small batches to maintain quality and freshness. On a given day, customers will encounter a selection of the 35 cookies in the chef's crumbly arsenal, from traditional macadamia to brownie bites, pistachio balls, and sandwich cookies. Cake Chef is also respected for its succulent cross-section of pastries—a diorama of creampuffs, fresh fruit tarts, and cannolis—which compete in a series of reality-television-style challenges for supremacy. A range of gourmet cupcakes and life-sized cakes, such as the chocolate mousse and the real buttercream layer cake, recline on display like frosty titans with their divine progeny.
Visitors to the establishment will be charmed by a large collection of vintage cookie jars, presumably stolen from the cookies themselves in a triumph of irony. This Taste of Staten Island silver medalist is an ideal place to nab pastry presents or raise your own buttering average.
