In 1910, polar explorer Robert Peary became the first European to perform a triple Lutz while skating across the Bering Strait. Follow in his foot glides with today's Groupon: for $4, you get admission to one ice-skating session and skate rental at Canlan Ice Sports (up to a $10 value). This deal is valid only during public sessions every Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. (a $5 value), Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (a $7 value), and Saturday and Sunday afternoons, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (a $5 value) (scheduled times may vary slightly).
Canlan Ice Sports owns and manages a frosty flotilla of 22 ice sports facilities in Canada and the United States. Its sleek new Fort Wayne facility boasts (especially after a few snifters of brandy) three gleaming ice surfaces sized to National Hockey League proportions, each with four locker rooms bedecked with showers, toilets, and buckets of confetti for dousing teammates after the latest ice-leapfrogging victory. Skate rental (a $3 value) is included with this Groupon for curious gliders who don't own their own or lack the know-how to fashion them from leftover shivs.
The Thirsty Penguin Grillhouse, Canlan's full-service restaurant and bar, is on hand to take the chill out of ice-fatigued bellies. The cozy sports bar offers a full view of the rinks, so parents can kick back with a brew or two while monitoring their children's action-packed games of live-sized ice chess. For skaters suffering from simulated snow-blindness, the digital glow of available video games or televised sports provides a much-needed respite before heading back to the glaze. Since you can purchase multiple Groupons, come back as many times as you need to prepare for that upcoming business trip to Hoth.

About SportsOne Parkview Icehouse
Canlan Ice Sports has three NHL-sized rinks, and all three receive their fair share of carvings during professional skating lessons, open-skate sessions, and high-intensity hockey leagues. Of the many offerings, the center’s weeklong hockey camps develop trainees' agility and shooting skills, just as its three-on-three youth hockey leagues pit one inadequate barbershop quartet against another. Regardless of the reason for arrival, visitors can always grab food and refreshments at the Thirsty Penguin, a full-service restaurant and bar that overlooks the rinks. For off-ice excitement, guests can visit the inflatable playground, freely traversing the double-sided slide and other components comprising the bouncy playland.
