As that wise, Morgan Freeman–looking janitor who taught you to believe in yourself always said, "Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in horseshoes." Today's Groupon gives you a much more comfortable judgment-earning experience: for $38, you get a two-hour guided horseback tour ($70 value) through Cave Creek Outfitters. Until May, the two-hour tours hit the dusty trail at 9 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., so be sure to call at least 48 hours in advance to schedule whichever time agrees most with your internal galloping rhythms (hours change after May; your Groupon expires in July). Long pants and close-toed shoes are required.
From its stomping grounds in the Sonoran Desert Hills, Cave Creek Outfitters is situated within driving distance of Scottsdale and Phoenix while still feeling far away from the bustle of city life. After being formally introduced to your steed, you'll join a small band of five to seven city slickers as you and your new equestrian friends/transportation march through beautiful views of the Sonoran Desert under the experienced guidance of a Cave Creek wrangler. Marvel at the stoic postures of local cacti and the infinite expanse of the big blue sky as you become as confident a rider as Lewis and Clark when they set out to discover new lands and new four-legged animals to ride.
The peaceful, contemplative pace of a horseback ride through the desert is so peaceful that it is the number-one reason why horses today rarely engage in warfare or pyramid schemes. Drink deep the beautiful sights of the desert and enjoy wide-open thinking space unclouded by the noisy choking of gaseous automobiles.
Reviews
While there's a lack of online reviews floating about the Interweb, one Insider Pager gives the experience five stars, and one IgoUgo member gives four stars:
- I can't say enough good things about this place. It's obvious that they genuinely care about their horses as they handle them with care- they have over 40. The facilities are very clean. The trail guides and other staff are very easygoing and friendly – K B., Insider Pages
- The ride was very tranquil & the vistas were spectacular especially at sunset. The horses (& guides!) were well mannered & easy going! – globe trotter, IgoUgo
