Grape juice magically transforms into wine in the same way milk becomes cheese and a 1972 Dodge Dart becomes an even older 1972 Dodge Dart. Tipple the tasty transformation with today's Groupon: for $17, you get a legacy wine tasting for two and a bottle of either 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay or 2008 Lone Oak Vidal Blanc at Chandler Hill Vineyards in Defiance (a $35 total value).

Chandler Hill Vineyards, which St. Louis Magazine named 2010's A-List Vineyard, serves local and West Coast wines within a welcoming facility. Sip from a selection of five different wines from California, Oregon, Washington, and Missouri while lounging in the 5,000-square-foot tasting room, which has a fireplace, flat-screen television, and palpable absence of sweaty ghosts. The tasting room's expansive deck overlooks the vineyards, a hidden lake, and pastoral Osage Valley. Take a tour of the wine-making facility to see how the magic is picked from the vine, crushed, and aged in barrels until the magicians come and soak their top hats in it. You'll be taking home either 2008 Lone Oak Vidal Blanc, a French-American hybrid with a crisp, clean acidity and hints of cantaloupe and jazzlefruit, or 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay, a floral-blossomy clone of a chardonnay from Jamison Canyon of Napa Valley.

About Chandler Hill Vineyards

Chandler Hill Vineyards' rolling, verdant rows of Norton, Chambourcin and Vignoles grapes and placid lakeside views offer visitors a quiet place to get away from it all. Built on land once owned by freed slave Joseph Chandler, the winery still retains the essence of the past. The 5,000-square-foot, lodge-like tasting room stands on the site of Chandler's modest cabin. Century-old artifacts discovered during the excavation, including a shotgun and a Hoveround, remain on display, and stones from the original foundation have been carefully repurposed. As candles in a wrought-iron fixture flicker overhead, guests here sip wines from Missouri and the West Coast and chat by a glowing fire in a large stone fireplace.

In its A-List 2010 feature, St. Louis Magazine said, "We’re fans of many regional wineries, but there’s something about Chandler Hill that feels a little more sophisticated, a little extra tucked-away." Thanks to its picturesque vineyards, 5,000-square-foot deck for warm-weather relaxation, and events such as live music performances, the secluded spot was named the Most Fun Winery on Ladue News's 2012 Platinum List.
