Charleston Brews Cruise's white van whisks passengers to three local craft breweries for quaffs of artisan ales and tours of fermentation labs. Having poured his desire to contribute to a vibrant local economy into the cultivation of Charleston's beer scene, Brent Horner selects the breweries and chauffeurs the 3.5-hour journeys, whose past stops have included sustainable brewhouses such as Coast Brewing Company or Holy City Brewing Company. At each stop, representatives pour up to five 4-ounce beer samples, bathing dry palates in the bitter gold of an India pale ale or possibly a velvety, toasted porter, and tour-goers replenish energy reserves throughout with complimentary water, snacks, and wind turbines. Guests can marvel at stainless-steel vats concealing the alchemy of hops and malts, and at oak aging casks where young ales bathe until they exhibit complex flavor and pruny fingers.
