Today’s three-part Groupon spectacularly attacks your sports-complex yearnings from every angle with a set of deals at Chelsea Piers. This 30-acre waterfront sports and leisure complex is home to fitness centers, rinks, courts, golf simulators, and heaps of healthy entertainment. You can get one or all of today’s deals: a two-week Sports Center gym membership for $40 (a $125 value), three boot-camp training sessions for $40 (a $120 value), and/or a friendly outing for up to four people on a virtual golf course for $45 (a $105 value).
A single-day pass to the Sports Center costs $10 more than today’s deal—and you’ll have access for a full two weeks. You must use your Groupon by December 31. It’s important to stay active in the winter months, when the temptation-touting snow demons are dangling Season 1 of Pushing Daisies in your face and motioning to a bag of Pepperidge Farm Chessmen. Rub it in their faces while getting a jump on this year’s New Year’s resolution. With your Groupon, you’ll have access to all of The Sports Center’s offerings, including:
- 6-lane, 25-yard indoor swimming pool
- 1/4-mile indoor running track
- 10,000-square-foot indoor rock climbing wall
- NYC’s only indoor sand volleyball court, completely free of mouthy gulls
- 20,000 square feet of cardio and strength-training equipment
- Boxing ring and circuit
- 3 indoor basketball/volleyball courts
The club also offers more than 100 classes. Most of them are free, with some costing an extra fee. The ring under today’s exercise big top is one such class: The Beast boot camp training. You don’t have to be a member of the gym to take advantage of this offer, but picking up both is a cost-efficient way to supplement your membership. You’ll get three intense, full-bodied workout sessions, each led by elite trainers poised to figuratively whip you into shape. Each class has a low student-to-teacher ratio, making your sergeant of motivation feel like a personal trainer. The Beast classes utilize the 28 acres of training space and Olympic-caliber equipment in a way that will stretch imaginations, muscles, and limits.
After or in lieu of a strenuous workout, the virtual links at the golf club await. Golf, winter, and New York can finally be said in the same sentence with the state-of-the-art simulators at Chelsea Piers. You and up to three golf buddies can swing and slice your way through more than 50 championship courses over the course of your two-hour session. There are two simulators accommodating up to four players each, so pick up two Groupons and go with a bigger group. Since there is a limited amount of space, it’s important to book the simulators 24 to 48 hours in advance, just like the Holodeck, but with less chance of being murdered by Professor Moriarty. Walk-ins are welcome, but are subject to availability. While virtual golfing, you can order food and drinks right to your room from the Chelsea Brewing Company, giving you the game-changing opportunity to feast and drink while you drive. You’ll also get a $15 golf-ball card good for the scenic driving range.

Letters from Boot Camp
Boot camps are fitness regimens designed to train and condition your physique; they are not actual sleep-away camps for fashion-conscious children to learn to craft and model boots, a mistake unfortunately made by the parents of 8-year-old Henry Duggins, who dropped him and his suitcase off at a boot camp last week, before leaving on their three-week cruise. Here’s a letter Henry wrote them for when they get back.
- Dear Mom and Dad: Boot camp is confusing. There are no boots here, and everyone is always exercizing [sic]. They are very strong. Every day, we get up early to do exercizes [sic] and it is hard but fun. When people ask me where my parents are, I tell them about your boat cruise and they look conserned [sic]. There are no beds here also and at night I sleep on a gym mat. I think I might hate you. Love, Henry.
