The explosively theatrical dancers of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater have been creating groundbreaking work for over 50 years. Founder Alvin Ailey drew upon his "blood memories" of Texas, the blues and spirituals to help popularize modern dance through masterpieces like Revelation, which continues to thrill AAADT's audiences. Under current artistic director Robert Battle, this "cultural ambassador to the world" is as vibrant as ever, putting the company's iconic stamp on pieces by other favorite choreographers in addition to debuting works from the hottest young artists. This year, the troupe leaps into new works by renowned choreographers Paul Taylor, Ronald K. Brown and Rennie Harris, in addition to Ailey's Revelations.
