Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Students must be able to verbally communicate with instructor in primary language of the training.
Audience: The 10HR OSHA Construction Safety and Health Training was developed by the US Department of Labor to provide construction workers, supervisors, and other personnel responsible for construction activities with an awareness of construction safety and health concerns in the construction industry.
The 10 HR OSHA Construction is to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. This course emphasizes the role of the construction worker in hazard recognition and avoidance, workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. The 10-hour training program is primarily intended for entry level workers that may include diverse population of professions who are involved in construction operations in NYC, such as construction workers, safety inspectors, safety managers, engineers and architects.
Local Law 196 mandates completion of OSHA training by 3/1/18 for all demolition and construction workers employed within the Five Boroughs on projects requiring a Construction Super, Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator, Concrete Safety Manager, or Competent Person.
Within 90 days of successful completion of the course, participants will receive an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry wallet card from the OSHA Training Institute (OTI). OSHA cards will be distributed directly to the student, regardless of who paid for the training.
Learning Outcome
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recognize worker rights and employer responsibilities under OSHA.
- Identify major hazards that are predominant when using stairways and ladders on construction site.
- Define methods of controlling four main health hazards that construction worker may be exposed to.
- Identify ways to select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and life saving equipment.
- Identify major focus four hazards and describe ways to prevent worker’s exposure.
- Explain risks associated with unsafe use of scaffolding equipment on construction site.
Completion Requirements: Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities.
Per OSHA Outreach Training Program requirements, Rev April 2017, a student is eligible for makeup training only if they have completed at least 50% of the contact hours for the training PRIOR to their absence. It is the responsibility of the student to contact TSCTA to schedule a make-up session within 6 months of the original class date.
Upon completion of the course students will receive a certificate from TSCTA and within 90 days of successful completion of the course, participants will receive an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry wallet card from the OSHA Training Institute (OTI). The OSHA Outreach Program Training Guidelines (April 2017) require that the OSHA course completion cards are issued directly to each student, regardless of who paid for the training.
