Flying is the only way to get close enough to a cloud to milk it or to visit your secret sky family. Bolster the bond earthly loved ones just don't understand with today's Groupon: for $150, you get two 45-minute flight lessons (a $195 value), two hours of ground school (a $90 value), and a logbook (a $20 value) at Cox Aviation, located at Henderson Executive Airport (a $305 total value).
One of the newest Part 61-flight schools in the Las Vegas Valley, Cox Aviation's flight school teaches wingless animals the fine arts of ascension and alighting, and imparts a newfound appreciation for vistas below. The ground school and subsequent flight-training experience garnered can be a fun aboveground jaunt, a first step toward a new career, or the beginning of an elaborate transformation into a bird. FAA-certificated instructors teach students the fundamentals of flying, including understanding of flight principles, safe operation of the various instruments, and adherence to procedures and regulations.
Alongside their guides, students grab hold of the control column in one of Cox's two Piper PA-38 Tomahawk two-seater training airplanes. While students take in the sensation of handling the aircraft at 5,000 feet, flight instructors lead them through handling turns, changes in elevation, and blindfolded triple axles. Splendid expanses of the West spread out under the airborne, including such attractions as the Hoover Dam, Red Rock State Park, and the Grand Canyon. A logbook is included for all poems crafted in flight.
