✈️ Cradle of Aviation Museum
Flanked by seven other aircraft, a Grumman F-11 hangs suspended in a shallow dive over the main entrance to Cradle of Aviation Museum’s four-story glass atrium. Three viewing levels on wraparound balconies afford views of the aircraft that only fellow pilots in close formation ever saw when it was in service. The 150,000-square foot facility’s eight exhibit galleries grant similarly intimate glimpses of more than 75 air and spacecraft that trace the historic path of Long Island’s aviation contributions since 1870. Those artifacts include Charles Lindbergh's first plane, a WWI Jenny, one of the oldest planes in the country, a 1909 Bleriot, a 1928 Ryan NYP, one of two surviving sister ships to Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, and our Lunar Module that was scheduled to go to the Moon on Apollo 19 before the program was canceled.
The museum also caters to special events and can host weddings, corporate fêtes and birthday celebrations. Guests can organise a cocktail party of up to 1,500 people or can entertain 1,000+ for dinner, dancing, presentations and more.
✈️What People Say on Yelp
Ray:
Disabled Veteran here - the cradle of aviation is the best museum I've ever been to. A lot of military history is shown here. They even offer veteran discounts and accommodate disabled people like myself (I am a disabled veteran). I would recommend. A lot of the stuff here reminds me of my time served in the United States Military.
Francesca:
Love love love coming here. This place is great for children and adults. Kids can sit in many planes (toddlers). So much information. I have yet to be in the movie thing because I know my toddler probably won't sit in it. There are huge planes in here. You can see first planes, WWI, WWII planes too. You can also learn so much about Long Island.
Cathy:
Such a cute museum! You could go through it within 1-2 hours and they often have arcade-related exhibits. The staff is really knowledgeable and if you're lucky and go during a slower period you could get a pretty insightful little tour from a friendly staff member. Just such a great plethora of aviation history on Long Island! Also fun merch at the store.
