After an initial consultation to confirm candidacy, which includes an eye exam and an overview of the procedure, the surgery is scheduled. Each surgery begins with the creation of a small flap on the corneal surface. A Wavelight EX500 Excimer Laser then reshapes the curvature of the cornea under the flap according to calibrations customized for each patient, which allows light rays to focus on the retina correctly, clearing vision. Next, the flap is set back into place and allowed to fuse to the rest of the cornea. Eyes typically heal well enough for patients to see after one day.
