Paintball is a lot like chess in that both require complex strategizing and both are almost impossible to win against autonomous robots. For $20, you get a full day of paintball play, including all the equipment you'll need and 200 paintballs, at Davis Paintball (a $42 value).
Open since 2004, Davis Paintball is one of Northern California's biggest paintball fields designed for beginners. The attentive staff of paintball pros at Davis will outfit you with all the equipment you will need to play, including goggles, facemask, full CO2 tank, semi-automatic paintball marker, 200 paintballs, and a flowered carrying case. Before the games begin, you'll learn how to operate your Pollock-painting weapon and learn the rules of the game, including the controversial tuxedo dress code. Most paintball games consist of two teams, each trying to eliminate all of the other team's players by running, crawling, and ducking behind man-made props. After you master the basics, you can work up to more intense games and strategies, such as the chameleon crouch or the domestic shorthair sneak.
Stay and play all day on each of the nine different playing fields—all feature varied terrains, from a giant human-sized maze to the shootout-readiness of an open plain. Staff members are always on hand to answer questions and protect players' safety. Players are matched with others who share the same skill level and love for soft-serve to ensure an exciting and fair game. Davis Paintball is open Saturday and Sunday rain or shine except for major holidays.

Nine Yelpers give Davis Paintball an average of four stars. PBreview.com reviewers say Davis Paintball provides great service and is especially accommodating to new players of the sport.
- When I called, the person answering the phone was very patient, and answer my multitude of 'newbie' questions. At the field the emphasis on safety was clear, the safety speech they gave the boys was great, and the staff really stayed on top of them to make sure everything was fun and safe. – kkoala7, PBreview.com
- The facility is great, with lots of different field set-ups to vary the strategy and tactics. The Refs are friendly and helpful and always focused on safety. This makes me comfortable bringing our kids' friends for the parties. – Steve A2, PBreview.com

About Davis Paintball Center
During his 17-year-long professional paintballing career, Micah McGlocklin clinched five championships, including one with Sacramento XSV, a team he formed in 2003. He has more than 12 years of experience operating paintball fields, and this technical expertise paired with his obvious passion for the sport is evident in the facilities at Davis Paintball Center. Eager to introduce others to the joys of chromatic chaos, Micah and his staff walk novices through the game’s rules, equipment, and safety tips. Newbies are then organized into teams for refereed bouts on one of nine fields spread across 40 acres. As tenderfoots test out their paintballing skills on fields such as Four Corners and Center Castle—where a roomy distance separates opponents—advanced players can compete in more compact spaces at two hyper ball fields, an airball field, and a paint-soaked broom closet.
