The Scots developed golf to irk common loch pests, such as merats, locharoaches, and Nessie, who to this day rarely surfaces for fear of being beaned by a well-aimed ball. Brush up your monster-vexing skills with today's Groupon: for $50, you get one round of golf, plus use of a golf cart and a range card, at Desert Pines Golf Club (up to a $129 value).
One of Golf Digest's top-50 public courses in the U.S., Desert Pines packs in the cerebral shots and scents the air with 4,000 mature pine trees swaying in the breeze, only occasionally reaching out to snatch a foul ball out of the air. Take to the course for 18 holes of golf (up to $99 value, depending on date and time of game), traversing the terrain from a rented golf cart, included in this deal. Desert Pines' bent grass greens emulate those of the Augusta National Golf Club, and the large white-sand bunkers emulate those inside Space Emperor Klaxon's giant Hourglass of Doom. Four lakes dot the landscape and one vast desert sky caps it. Cool down after the game in the clubhouse, equipped with a full-service bar and sweeping views of the downtown strip, or take to the driving range with your range card ($30) for some extra hacking and hitting. The card is good for 400 balls; you can use as many of the 400 balls as you'd like over as many visits as you'd like.
Varied enough to challenge players of all abilities, Desert Pines reminds you why you got into golf in the first place—it's one of the few sports a person can successfully play for a lifetime, and it comes in handy for defending your home against renegade windmills. Load up on woods and irons and go for the greens of Desert Pines.

About Desert Pines Golf Club
Desert Pines Golf Club
From the framed photos of legendary players lining the walls of the stately clubhouse to the last putt on the meticulously manicured 18th green, Desert Pines Golf Club surrounds players with tradition. Named one of the Top 50 Public Courses in the nation by Golf Digest, the Pete Dye design opened in 1997 and received a major overhaul 10 years later, complete with 18 newly designed and rebuilt greens. The course features rolling mounds and thousands of mature pines that delineate narrow fairways, yielding beautiful views and occasional lucky bounces back to safety. Unlike other area courses and driving ranges that double as airport runways, wind isn't much of a factor at Desert Pines, thanks to its low elevation, dense foliage, and zero-gravity tee boxes.

Royal Links Golf Club
Recognized as the Best Course in Las Vegas in 2006 by the Review-Journal, Royal Links Golf Club honors the game’s centuries-old traditions with a links-style labyrinth of holes modeled after 11 British Open rotation courses. The Dye International design transports players to such famous holes as the Road Hole at St. Andrews and the Postage Stamp at Royal Troon, and commemorates great moments in British Open history with monuments interspersed throughout the course. As players crush their drives down hilly, narrow fairways, professional forecaddies illuminate the hole’s history, warn players of hidden pot bunkers, and squelch rumors about a local ball-eating Nessie lurking in the waterways.
After completing a round, golfers can head to the elegant clubhouse, which borrows architectural details from Scottish castles, or load up on gear at the pro shop, named one of America’s 100 Best Golf Shops in 2004 and 2005 by Golf World.
