About Discovery Science Place
At Discovery Science Place, learning is all about accessibility. The activity center puts the world of science in children's terms, trading sterile labs and volatile chemicals for fun, hand-on exhibits that encourage imaginative play and interaction with others. Read on to learn more about the museum:
- Size: 14 permanent exhibits on topics including robots, mining, and a hospital nursery
- Eye Catcher: the Dino Dig Pit, where kids uncover fossils. Small Town Kids blog praises the interactive exhibit, saying "this is so much more creative than pictures or even actual fossils."
- Permanent Mainstay: The Cave, a replica cavern where visitors learn about how geological forces shape the earth and the wildlife within it. There's even an earthquake simulator.
- Don't Miss: Science Saturdays, a weekly program geared toward elementary and middle schoolers. Museum employees, educators from UT-Tyler, and local scientists lead programs on topics such as human anatomy, and kids get a certificate that can be traded for extra credit with participating teachers.
