Split and strike through 30 frames at East Village Tavern + Bowl. You get three games plus shoe rental during a single visit to this 12-lane bowling alley—a Gaslamp favorite for its laid-back atmosphere and low rates. SignOnSanDiego.com called East Village Tavern + Bowl a "bowling oasis/sport paradise" for its polished bar, flat-screen TVs, upstairs loft with pool tables, great food, fun bowling, and a polished bar.
This Groupon isn't valid on Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. until close, when East Village is so packed bowlers have to set up non-sanctioned lanes in the alley and bowl with seedless watermelons. The best bowling happens during the week; there's Taco Bowl Tuesdays when two tacos cost $1.99 and Dos Equis pints are $3, or half-price Mondays with happy hour drinks and half-off appetizers (happy hour is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays). With Fat Tire, Yellow Tail, Dos Equis, Blue Moon, Stella, Guinness, and more on tap, it's easy to strike, strike, and finally turkey.
East Village is open late (daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.), so you can blast pins into the wee hours. If you bowl between 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., when it costs $4.95 per game, this Groupon saves you 41% (shoe rental is $3.95.) If you go after 8 p.m. when it's $5.95, you'll save 50% (see East Village's rates for more info).
Reviews
SignOnSanDiego.com liked the bowl and brew at East Village:
- Prepare yourself for a polished sports bar that’s as tall as an aircraft hanger, as wide as an Oktoberfest beer tent and as venerable as a cathedral in which neon beer signage and framed jerseys function as iconography (Our Lady of Bud Light and St. Trevor Hoffman, to name a couple), the voice of God sounds more like ESPN and salvation lies in the six-lane bowling alley that’s tacked onto the building’s east end. – Derrik Chinn, SignOnSanDiego.com
Citysearchers give East Village a 4.5-star rating; Yelpers give it 3.5:
- This is a great place to come on game day or to play some games of your own. Friendly/Welcoming staff, fun atmosphere and who can say no to bowling? The food is good, Good amount of Beers on tap. – cardboard, Citysearch
- Definitely one of a kind in downtown San Diego. I've been here a few times and have always had a great time. The prices are reasonable, and the food is pretty good. Overall this would be a great last minute idea anytime of the week! – Al J., Yelp
- Bowling is really fun and this bowling alley rocks! It's a more intimate bowling alley with class and attitude all in one! – Holly Ann J., Yelp
