About Fort Hunter Mansion and Park
Founded as a milling hub under the name Hunter's Mill, the area became known as Fort Hunter during the defensive buildup to the French and Indian War in the 1750s. In the 1800s it became a bustling estate with a mansion and well-to-do dairy farm before eventually becoming the Fort Hunter Mansion and Park that we know today. Visitors can learn more about this history and more, walk the canal and river trails or simply take in the spectacular views of the Susquehanna River and historic Rockville Bridge.
