Country Bed and Breakfast Adjacent to Golf Course
Cart Barn Inn at Yoda Creek doesn’t look like any inn you’ve ever seen. True to its name, the inn resides within a former cart barn—a huge, gray warehouse where a neighboring golf course used to store its golf carts overnight. Owner Kay Tyler has left the exterior of the barn largely untouched, which helps create what she's dubbed the “wow” effect—named for the word most spoken by guests once they’ve crossed the threshold and entered the charming, eclectic interior.
Kay’s artwork lines the walls and corridors of the inn, lit by a string of holiday lights, and fresh flowers fill repurposed golf bags. Each of the inn’s 10 rooms have their own sense of style; zebra-striped chairs occupy the Safari king, and a bombay chest sits in the Oriental queen. King rooms overlook the Yoda Creek Golf Course next door, and all rooms have satellite TVs and private baths.
Every morning, innkeeper Marc Taylor can’t help but make an abundance of food for the inn’s complimentary breakfast. “I get carried away!” she says, referencing the fruit, potatoes, biscuits, and her famous breakfast casseroles that cover the table. Expect to find locally made sausage in at least one of the morning’s dishes and in your dreams. Behind the inn, an expansive patio with swings, a TV, and more strung lights looks out onto the fenced-in gardens. There, azaleas and roses blossom around a welded statue of a golfer that was gifted to the inn—a fitting reminder of its unexpected roots.
Bruce, Mississippi: Easy Drive from Oxford and Tupelo
The little town of Bruce is located an hour from Tupelo, the birthplace of Elvis. It’s even closer to Oxford, home of Ole Miss and named one of the six best college towns by USA Today. The town is also the birthplace of William Faulkner—fans can visit Rowan Oak, the 29 acres of land that housed the author and his family for more than 40 years. Back at the inn, pop over next door to play a quick round at the nine-hole Yoda Creek Golf Course (about $22 a round). Though dining options around Bruce itself are limited, guests can make use of the inn’s backyard grill for home-cooked meals.
