Cozy Country Inn with Views of the Green Mountains
Deerhill Inn sits on the eastern edge of Green Mountain National Forest, surrounded by miles of rolling woodlands. Innkeepers Ariane Burgess and Scott Kocher have incorporated the country landscape into their bed and breakfast’s interior, with guest rooms named after local trees and flowers. Each room has a lovely view from an outdoor balcony or deck, facing either the Green Mountains or gardens dotted with wildflowers.
Chef Todd Draper helms the kitchen at the upscale Deerhill Inn restaurant, known for its American country cuisine. The dinner menu rotates often, and past courses have included a charcuterie plate and pan-roasted duck breast. Savory bites are even better when paired with a selection from the extensive wine list, lauded by Wine Spectator for its California varietals.
The inn houses 13 individually decorated rooms, each equipped with a balcony or deck. Interior styles range from the rustic-contemporary Tamarack room to the countrified Magnolia room, with wood-paneled walls and a cast-iron stove. In the morning, you'll get a cooked-to-order breakfast with choices such as freshly baked muffins, french toast, and local bacon.
West Dover, Vermont: Historical Town in Woodsy Southern Vermont
In the Mount Snow Valley, warmer temperatures mean a fresh set of outdoor pursuits. Fishing is popular along Deerfield River during trout season, which lasts from April to October. In nearby Wilmington, hikers explore trails around Haystack Mountain. Also, while Mount Snow Ski Resort closed down its slopes for the season in late March, the mountain becomes a haven for warm weather activity beginning May 4. You can play a round on the 18-hole Mount Snow Golf Club or zip around miles of rugged, single-track mountain-biking paths. Bikers can test their chops on trail obstacles such as dirt jumps, ladders, and tiger pits.
