Classic Ski Lodge in the Heart of Vail

At an elevation of 8,120 feet, Vail Mountain is the second-largest ski mountain in North America. It looms over Vail Village and the village of LionsHead, and its slopes are covered in dense pine forests and crisscrossed by skiing and hiking trails. At every turn, you’re within sight of the mountain. You can get a nice view of it from the veranda at Evergreen Lodge Vail, too. The hotel, done up in classic ski-lodge style, is also located within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Vail.

In the lobby, there's a mounted deer head that hangs over a grand stone fireplace, and you can look out to the woods from deep leather couches. During your stay in the mountain-view rooms, you'll have the added company of a wine-and-cheese basket. Each room is recently renovated and features unique decor; some are floral-themed rooms with snowy white linens, and other rooms feature earth tones and dark wood furniture. All the rooms have one thing in common, though: a view of Vail Mountain out the window.

Every morning, you can head to the Altitude Café to enjoy an included continental breakfast. Later in the day, feel free to head to the Altitude Billiards & Sports Club, which serves drafts of specialty beers and has a seasonally changing menu.

Vail, Colorado: Swiss-Style Ski Town Situated for Year-Round Recreation

Located in Colorado's White River National Forest at the base of Vail Mountain, Vail is best known for its world-class skiing and its mountain's seven snow-filled back bowls. That said, the area is gorgeous in the summer as well, and many take to the high altitudes for mountain biking, horseback riding, and paragliding.

Another major summer draw is the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, less than a mile’s walk from the lodge. Through Labor Day weekend, you can take a guided tour through these mountaintop botanical gardens, waterfalls, and rock formations.

Inspired by the Swiss ski town of Zermatt, Vail Village is steeped in European charm. Bavarian-style bistros, art galleries, and rustic chalets line the village’s cobblestone streets, and there aren't any cars, which lends to a tranquil atmosphere.
