Modern Suites in High-Rise above the Vegas Strip
Waterfalls, stone gardens, and a fire pit surround Palms Place at the Palms' 50,000-square-foot pool. This area occupies its own little remote slice of paradise—it's situated on the sixth story of the building. After grabbing a drink poolside, you can duck into a private cabana or look out to a panoramic view of the incandescent Las Vegas Strip below.
Palms Place as a whole has a relaxed, exclusive feel, and it takes every opportunity to showcase its view of Vegas. On the 55th floor of the resort’s Palms Tower, you’ll find the Ghostbar nightclub, where you can step onto the outdoor sky deck to take in a bird’s-eye view of the Strip and sip cocktails on white wraparound sofas that glow under violet lights. Glass insets cover the deck’s floor, allowing you to get a dramatic view of Sin City’s receding hairline.
Celebrated chef Kerry Simon helms the kitchen at Simon Restaurant & Lounge, one of 11 total restaurants at the hotel. Simon and the team prepare elegant dishes from seasonal and organic ingredients at this eatery, which has been known to draw celebrities. You can peer through floor-to-ceiling windows to get an eyeful of the Strip and Spring Mountains, too.
Studio suites span 600 square feet, with twin 42-inch plasma TVs, a king-size bed fitted with Italian bedding by Matteo, wall-to-wall windows, and a contemporary kitchen. One-bedroom suites feature all of the above, plus a whirlpool bathtub and a living room with a fireplace.
Las Vegas: The Strip Past and Present
Mentioning Las Vegas usually conjures up images of spinning roulette wheels and stone-faced poker players. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll want to make a beeline for the casinos lining the neon-lit Strip. But for lower-stakes gambling in a throwback Vegas atmosphere, head downtown to Fremont Street. Vintage signs and showgirls crowned with headdresses recall the days of Sinatra and Martin, but this Glitter Gulch burns much brighter today than it did in the Rat Pack era: beginning at dusk, a canopy of more than 12 million LED lights erupts in a psychedelic light and music show every hour.
Educational attractions have never been Sin City's strong suit, but the Mob Museum boasts a winning formula: bank robberies, prostitution, and money laundering. Exhibits profile legendary Mafiosos from Capone to Gotti, and within the former federal courthouse, you can participate in a police lineup, or enter witness protection for the rest of your life.
