Chic Modern Bed and Breakfast Minutes from Downtown Denver
From the outside, the Queen Anne Bed and Breakfast has all the trappings of a quintessential Victorian inn: yellow gingerbread siding, an ornately trimmed veranda, and conical turrets. From the inside, however, visitors might be surprised to find pop art hanging from the walls and a smattering of mod furniture mixed in with antique pieces. Built in 1879, the inn now actively supports eco-friendly initiatives with organic breakfasts made from herbs and vegetables grown just outside in the garden. Within this distinctive modern hideaway, it's easy to forget that the bustle of downtown Denver is just minutes away.
The walls and domed ceiling of the Aspen room are covered with an original mural depicting an alpine aspen forest beneath billowy cumulus clouds. An aspen-wood bed frame complements the décor, and 100% organic cotton sheets top a mattress made with green-tea foam and coils repurposed from orphaned slinkies. Designed by local artists Josh and Tran Wills, suite 4's sitting room is furnished with mod furniture and stark black-and-white paintings that look like supersized ink sketches. In the separate bedroom, art shares wall space with bold, black lettering that reads, "HOLLER."
Come morning, lodgers are drawn to the community for breakfast made with fresh garden produce and accompanied by local Novo coffee. The inn also lends out bicycles, which shorten the dozen or so blocks between the Queen Anne and the Denver Art Museum. Every night, the innkeepers host a wine and cheese reception.
Uptown Denver: Historical Architecture and Ample Green Space
In Denver—often called the mile-high city—the State Capitol Building's steps bear a marker indicating the exact point at which the city reaches 5,280 feet above sea level. Located just outside Capitol Hill, the chic Uptown neighborhood is known for its historical Victorian and Queen Anne architecture. Bistros and diners dot 17th Avenue's Restaurant Row, and just a few blocks north, across from the bed and breakfast, Benedict Fountain Park boasts some of the city's top-rated drinking fountains.
